I'm on very rare ground right now, in that haven't had a drink in over a week. I think that's only occurred two or three other times in past decade..
I think the longest I've gone without a drink of any kind, in last decade, may have been around 2 weeks.
How does it feel?
Not sure yet. Traded alcohol for coffee and tea, so days are full of energy, that's for sure, also no alcohol withdrawal symptoms at all what so ever, none, zero, nada, and I find that odd also.
Maybe I didn't drink as much as a 'true' alcoholic, who knows, just no I stopped cold turkey and no effects at all what so ever, it was simply mind over matter.
I don't feel happy or sad about it, just something I felt I had to do for health reasons, or to avoid future health issues.
I"m still very fit, still workout, although have neglected workouts over last 7 months or so as far as weights go, and can tell.
I think what saved me is that even though drank on the side, like when off work and on the weekends, is the fact that i maintained a relitivly all around healthy lifestyle as far as diet, fitness and rest go.
The jobs I worked kept me fit during the day, very fit, and I ate healthy, no sugar, no sodas's ect. I think that's what saved so much that I probably look more healthy, right now, than those who never drank.
And that's what I find odd also.
But I can only wonder how much healthier I'd look if never started drinking to begin with.
I'm on new ground right now, and not sure where being sober all the time will take me once I get 'back out there', employed again and all.
I mean do to Corona scare, I just haven't been mingling much anywhere at all.
And when I do, it's like I'll be a brand new person, given a second chance.
A second chance at what though?, I mean sure I've changed for the better since Corona crap hit, but nothing else around me has.

I think it's for real this time
I think it's for real this time, I mean it's been over a week since had any alcohol. And how I think it's for real this time is that usually when I get bored, the first thing that comes to mind is drinking, to alleviate the boredom, but not this time, this time alcohol never came to mind, that's a very big deal.
Also, another thing I like and notice about not feeling like needing alcohol to enhance self is that can have long conversations with people, while home, and not feel that alcohol is the only reason why you're able to talk to them.
Just spoke long with someone, maybe 15 minutes or so, and mind and energy totally sustained the whole time, didn't need like I needed 'another sip' of anything to keep conversation fun and going.
I enjoyed it actually, being steady and measured in thought, action and behavior.
And confident that what I say, I mean.
Cause when drunk, you can't always be sure that what you say, you really mean.
All of the above will only make sense to those who have had drinking problems in the past, or who just drink a lot on the side.
If never drank, I doubt any of it will make sense....or maybe it will in that alcohol isn't the only thing people can be addicted to.

Still sober.
This is the longest I've been without a drink in probably over a decade.
Still not sure what to think of it.
1. Luck hasn't really changed any
2. The people around me still seem the same.
3. Body feels the same, still wake up sore if sleep wrong.
4. Outlook on life still about the same.
5. Have lost weight
6. Have more sustained energy during the day, but not sure if that's natural or do to coffee and tea I've been drinking.
7. Not really happier, but moods have stabalized a lot, don't wake up feeling super depressed after a heavy night of drinking.
8. Starting to workout more again.
9. Less exotic towards self.
10. (struggling for 10)....
We'll skip 10 for now.
All and all, I'm glad I stopped drinking, but still going to grow old, get sick and die either way, but this way while alive, at least not in pain and a lot healthier going forward, I guess...I don't know. we'll see.

Still dry
Haven't had a drink now since early April, this is a 10 year record, wow.
Losing weight daily as a result, I'm losing about .3 to .4 lbs a day.
Today I've been eating steadily, chips (junk) and snacking, and just stepped off scale, and still, regardless, still dropping weight all because not drinking alcohol.
I guess alcohol has a lot of sugar in it, and sugar = fat, I guess, obviously so.
Was tempted today to have a sip or a can of beer, but resisted, had to, cause didn't want to fall into that 'Oh one little drink won't hurt' trap again.
I typed long and hard about it elsewhere, so won't spend much time on it now on this post.
Went from alcohol to caffeine, now have to decline on the caffeine and find natural mood balance again.

I actually look forward when the day comes and this thread can be retired, if can go 3 months without a drink, this thread will be moved to the basement, retired...but that's a long ways off.

It's the Sugar!
Don't have time to fully explain now, but I'm convinced it's the 'Sugar' in alcohol that gave me, and maybe others, that heavy gut, drowsy feeling after drinking that made you want to sleep deeply for hours afterwards
Why do I say that?
Cause when drinking store bought, sugar heavy, sugar compound heavy coffee from store, that same feeling would come about.
And one thing liquor/beer and store bought coffee, or just about any other store bought drink has in it is a ton of sugar.
Normally when I drink coffee, no sugar, no milk, nothing.
But when drink coffee from store, like 'Dunkin Donuts coffee', the drink loaded down with sweeteners and Sugar additives and this and that whatever.
Bottom line, same effect.
I mean when using own body for a 'lab', you begin to notice a lot.
And one thing I've noticed since being alcohol free for nearly a month, is that Sugar is probably more lethal to the body than both caffeine and beer combined.
And when sugar added to both liquor and coffee, the effects are amplyfied.
Sugar is what destroys your health...more to follow when time allows.

Back to high school weight for the first time in a long time/font]
Since I stopped drinking regularly, for the first time in a super long time, I'm back to 'high school weight'.
Stepped on scale this morning, and was like 'wow', not that it matters now, not that weight can change other areas of life not happy with, so more of a side note to self.

Another thing I don't like about the altering effect of alcohol is that it makes you 'boast' about things you cannot do or fulfill, but while drunk, you don't care, either that or really think you can do what you boast about.
And that's how you lose credibility is by boasting about things you cannot achieve, and or by promising other people things, you cannot give.
But being drunk gives you the illusion that you 'can' do all the things of your heart, but then as soon as the effects of the alcohol wears off, in reality, you feel yet again, a bit smaller than you were before.
Alcohol, the seductive trap.

When drunk, or getting there, you end up calling people you hate, or those who hate you, and then pretending like you're friends, when you're not.
Alcohol will make a fool out of you every single time.

I've cut down on my drinking by about 80%, but here's what I've learned, there's a lot more to happiness than what flows through your veins, be it alcohol of caffeine, if you're not happy, neither can substitute for that.
There's more to happiness than just being wired wide awake while drinking coffee, and more to happiness than acting a fool while drunk.
It's about balance I guess, something people have been struggling for forever, and that is balance.

I think I was happiest in life when had fun things to anticipate, when tomorrow felt like a bright door. Right now, I can't think of the last time I anticipated anything. Sometimes the anticipation of getting a new job can be fun, but then that wears off in a few weeks. Once hired, then you start anticipating the days you're off.

Alcohol in your body, blood, makes you take odd photos
This may sound odd, and probably better read by scientific types, but when you have alcohol in you, take a picture, and compare it to when you didn't.
Alcohol in you, the way it interacts with whatever frequency most cameras take light in at, just makes you look different.
It really does.
I've noticed this for years.
You won't notice in a mirror, but will in like a photo.
Alcohol, when in you, reflects light differently.
Ok now first lets just be honest.
Some people, some of you out there, are just so physically gifted, so physically beautiful, regardless of gender, that no matter what's in you, you just look good no matter what.
Can we just be honest here?
Some people, and we've known them, seen them, been friends with them, they, maybe you, just are so naturally gifted physically, that no matter what you always look good, cute or handsome, no matter what.
Morning, noon or night, upside down, sideways, crooked, no matter what angle the camera, you're just very photogenic.
It's usually in your youthful years though, say between 12-30, then after that become like every one else, and that is have to 'craft your beauty' on film or pictures.
I've known both males and females, in the past, and still see at times, that no matter what, they just always and totally look cute, no matter what.
Tight skin, smooth skin, sharp features, regardless of color or shade...the rest of us sit back in awe and witness, and wish 'Why couldn't I have those features 'god'.'
And god just says 'shat up'.
Could load pic as an example but don't want to alienate anyone.
Cute people are indeed beautiful to look at, but doesn't mean they're always nice.
I think Cute people start off wanting to be nice like everyone does naturally, but early own they learn there's power in looking attractive.
Attractiveness is power.
And as such very rare to find a attractive person, regardless of gender, who is also humble.
If attractive, meaning super cute or super handsome, and still humble, than you truly are blessed.

Me, I take terrible photos, face always looks bloated in 'selfies'.
But when look in mirror don't see same image camera captured.
That means I don't look good, I mean I do, but don't.
People who look super good, super cute, look super good and super cute no matter what, day or night, film, no film, drunk or sober, they just have that super cute, sharp, or super handsome, sharp look about them all of the time.
Some of you may be that way or know someone who's that way or have relatives that are that way.
But also, being to cute in this world isn't a cake walk, cause if really cute or handsome, you can often attract 'devils' that exploit that, I mean isn't that why corn industry so big?
It's like drug dealing cartel, or corn cartel, on equal footing, as far is revenue goes.
Only the corn cartel don't have to run, cause they get licensed to do so...isn't that something.
Unless I get a face job, I'll never achieve perfect looks.
But even that don't always work, I mean do you ever see those tabloid 'before and after' pics of celebs that went to like a Dollar store of plastic surgeon?
You feel sorry for them people, ye sure their rich, but after plastic surgery they look like monsters, it's sad.
Women who butcher their face, and Doctors willing to do so simply for money.
Looks aren't everything, heart matters more....I know that sounds korny, but it's true.

Seeing this video just gave me strength to put down bottle again
I'm no Sam Montgomery, not even, they're way more 'alive' than I am, and loved.
But still, for whatever reason, watching how they carried them self in this video, so calm, so well spoken, made me feel a bit ashamed and self conscious, in that that's me.
Not in that position, but 'logical', nice and polite.
Well it use to be anyways, well maybe not, yes and no.
OK, fine, I would of probably started insulting the officer....that aside....just watching how calm Sam was, well, just kind of had a 'big brother' effect on me.
In real life I have no one, so kind of have to get my inspiration from watching others.
They kind of reminded me of 'The Rock' in this video.
Either way, I just dumped remaining 4 beers down drain.. This guy in video makes me want to be 'straight' again.
This guy makes being 'sober' seem cool to me.
