The Twilight Zone is amazing in many ways, Rod Sterlings writing being the main thing of amazement. But another layer of amazement from the Twilight Zone is all the art work that appeared on the sets of the original 1959 TV show. Amazing pieces of art, statures, paintings and drawings. One can only wonder if they were created just for the sets, or gathered elsewhere. Either way...the art work of the sets rarely, if ever, get discussed. So I figured I'd start a blog discussion here...in what I call the 'Twilight Zone Museum'. Where only the art work of the show is looked at and examined. The statue above appears in the episode titled: Long live Jameson If my memory recalls, it was an episode about a man who was immortal, who's immortality was discovered by a Proffesior who noticed him in a civil war era photo...and noticed he hadn't aged a bit. And the plot thickens from there.

click picture to enlargeOne of the things I enjoy most about the Twilight Zone show, is looking at all the art work on the sets. It's almost like being a anthropologist, in that the art work really reveals the mindset of artist of the day, the mindset of the nation as a whole. And while examining the Twilight Zone set, you can also observe how some simple inventions haven't changed much at all in 50 or so years, like light bulbs, lamp shapes, curtains, picture frames, pencils, pens, chairs, couches, light switches, doors, and many other practical every day items. Some designs were so simple and practical when invented, that there really hasn't been much need to deviate from them. I find myself often more interested in the back drops of older episodes, than I do the actual themes or actors. But each episode is so layered with meaning and mystery, you can watch it 10 times, and still come up with something new you didn't notice before, just depends on your mindset at the time.

I have netflix now, and there are so many episodes of the Twilight Zone that I've never seen until now.
Not sure why the networks only seemed to play the top 30 or 40 episodes over and over again, while leaving out the maybe less popular episodes?
All I know is I'm viewing episodes I've never seen before, and just as interesting as anything on TV before.
Think about that, I've never viewed these episodes before, yet to me, just as relevant as any modern day show...now that's great creative writing, great art, art that lasts the ages.

I need to start collecting more Twilight Zone 'set art', cause it calms me down.
Some of the best things about older movies is noticing the art and the props on the set.

I'm watching a Twilight Zone episode and can't help but notice that age '35' seemed an older '35' than today.
In other words watching these older black and white TV shows, people who were 30 looked more like today's 50, in as far as maturity, hair cuts, mannerisms and more.
Not sure if rest of non TV society was like that, but do notice TV actors, productions (which basically rest of society learns from) just had a certain tone back then, and 1950's or early 60's 30 looked more like today's 50.

For instance, here's a 35 year old character in a episode 'Penchant to a Dream'?..season 1 (click to enlarge) Point is, they look much more mature than a 35 year old from today or 2021, it just seems back then men were groomed physically and socially to appear more 'Fatherly' in looks, and mannerism, at least as far as American pop culture goes or went.

'Perchance to Dream - Season one The interesting thing about this Twilight Zone 'set art' piece or item is that it appears in multiple episodes, here, in the photo above, it's in 'Perchance to Dream', where man is haunted by strange women in a dream and is afraid to go to sleep or he fears he won't wake up. And this piece of art also appears again in '3rd from the Sun', which is also season 1, where two scientist collaborate to steal top secret space ship in order to flee from their dying planet. In '3rd from the Sun', this are is more prominetely featured inside the mans home, several times actually, and I'm sure it appears in other episodes as well. When I watch older movies, any now, sometimes I do pay attention to the performers, but other times I'm paying attention to the props, the art, the details, cause by doing so you can learn a lot about whatever 'era' the TV show or movie shot in, you can also observe technology and how much it has and hasn't changed, believe it or not some items haven't changed at all in 70 years after being invented, like curtains, curtain rods, basic form or function of windows, drinking fountains and other things we commonly use on a daily basis. Anyways more art to follow as time allows.

I haven't done any twilight zone 'set art' as of late, but I'm watching it now on Amazon or 'Freeve' (with commercials) But one thing for sure, when feeling stressed, there's something about the twilight zone that eases my soul.

The lateness of the hour - Twilight Zone episode
In the lateness of the hour episode of the Twilight Zone, I think one of the maids named 'Zelda', is actually a male, or man. In this episode all the servants are supposed to be robots, human looking robots, but I do think Nelda or Zelda is a man dressed up like a woman.
Watch the episode and decide for yourself.

Did the Twilight Zone TV show utilize crossdressing males to play women? This is going to sound strange, but I'm watching a episode of the TZ titled 'In his image', and I could swear up and down, the lady playing this one characters fiancé is or was a man. And to me, the dead giveaway is the CHIN. I mean look at the chin, and also look how they're sitting in the car, women don't sit that way, that's how men sit and lay back against seats. And this is not the first episode where I've suspected men playing the roles of women. Am I on to something here that no one else has ever noticed before? It would only be fitting that the Twylight Zone boards, would notice something strange in the Twilight Zone TV show production. Feel free to copy and share the image and study it for yourself.

This would not surprise me in the least bit, in that Hollywood studios have been trying to get over on viewers for decades. That's what theater is, is trickery, and I would not be surprised if in some episodes, they had cross dressing men playing the role of women.
If they could fake send men to the moon, than why couldn't they fake pretend a man is a woman on certain episodes, just to prove they could get away with it.

Was it some mad spirit? A spirit that was mad that maybe I finally caught onto some weird occult like stuff occurring in Hollywood even way back then?
