Yes, applications suck, when used as sole discretionary tool as to whether or not someone is qualified to get job or not... First and foremost, one of the most slime ridden words in all the employment lingo is 'qualified'... People hire who they like, not who is qualified....that has been the case forever. Raw, static, qualification has always, and will always, take a back seat to 'favoritism'... People hire who they like, plain and simple...and that qualification stuff comes into place later. Also, hiring criteria is different from hiring a laborerous brick layer employee vs a board of directors of a fortune 500 company. Labor jobs don't so much emphasize 'style and flair' as they do someone who's willing to labor hard in the sun, as such personability is not that important... Anyways...I don't want to get side tracked...want to stay focused on the frustrations of applications, and how so many people with talent and potential, never get a chance to prove that do to applications. Applications basically screen out genius types, and screen in average, dull, compliant, dead weight to the company types. I'm here to say applications are totally meaningless when it comes to determining who is best for your company, or office or store... Don't believe me? Just look at the state of affairs customer service has been in for the last 20 years or more. All these people getting hired with cold, dry, impersonal personalities of stone. You can thank applications for that... Anyways...1st post out of many to follow... (believe me, I know what you're thinking...and will get to it soon...  |

And should I ever own my own company or required to hire others...I will not use traditional applications as a way of hiring people...
Other than to gather basic static info required by law...like soc#, dob, physical address, and criminal background questions...ect ect...
But aside from basic mandated info required by state law...the hiring process would not be based on some dry, outdated form...
And I will share with you how my modern day application would look or function...in the up coming posts...

Know what...applications still suck....with a big 'S'.... And are the reason many don't get hired... Applications suck...expecially depending on the type of job you're applying for...now days, many want to look far back into your work history...4-5-10-15 years or more...as if anyone can remember all that. That's great if you've only had 1-3 jobs...but what if you've worked a dozen or more temp jobs, while going to school on and off, while traveling and all sorts of other stuff...who can remember that? To me it shouldn't matter...all that should really matter for simple basic jobs is your criminal record... Your civic or criminal or lack of criminal record will say it all... It shouldn't matter what you were doing 5 years ago, as long as you weren't in jail or prison. And companies could easily run criminal background checks on all eligible canidates and totally shorten the process out, instead of make you, the applicant, fill out all sorts of odd questions online, so that no telling who can look at it and data-mine your information. It's really why I would much prefer to just work for myself...then I don't have to go through all of that...no qualifying, no stranger deciding my fate, rating, judging my ability...someone I'm in better shape than, can run faster than, smarter than, have more drive than, deciding my fate...I don't like that idea. The most simple jobs today have applications that act as if your a physicist or something...  To dig a ditch, or flip hamburgers, or some other manual labor job. Driving jobs are even worse...state and federal jobs, are near impossible...their applications that is. Well I'm still independent...so I can still say screw applications... I often work around people who I know would look bad on a application, but are some very hard working induvisuals...but if they applied at a standard job, would never even make it past application phase... Applications are cold and distant...the information you give is very dry and without rhyme, reason, or emotions. And also...I like my looks and hair 'as is'...I'm not trying to cut anything to take on some dry bland, slavish corporate look...sorry...you only go through your 'prime stage' in life once...physically...and I'm not having my prime phase butchered by some slavish corporation. I'm not taking on that geekish, corporate, will do anything you ask of me, type of look... I'm perfectly capable of performing any job or duty with my hair the way it is...I more than make up for it with my spunky, out going, engaging personality...vs many who have that dry, slavish corporate look are cold as hell to deal with, and have no personality at all what so ever...always trying to kiss the azz of their corporation in hopes of rising up...selling their soul and personality to corporate America, or I should say global corpatism now...(or however it's spelled)... When I read company mission statements I get sick of words like 'solutions'...barf... Example: 'Here at KB, we believe in providing our customers with excellence, and have built a reputation on outstanding customer solution quality assurance'... Whatever the hell that means...what that means is as an employee...your needs come last, dead last...and you will be expected to do whatever it takes to make some distant 'customer' happy...even if your feet and legs and back or going out late into your shift... You don't matter... I get sick of that corporate lingo, while you get paid next to nothing...don't even own stock in the company. Look, I'm not saying employment with a solid firm or company or corporation is bad...cause it's not...it just depends on you and what you want out of life I suppose. There was a time when I thought I could fit into that world of being a clone...but I really can't anymore... I want to start my own thing...enterprise...where I write the mission statement, instead of always reading someone elses... |

And I get tired of always being made to look up to some distant CEO or Boss...who does nothing for me at all...is off playing golf while others labor...
Or being told 'your ideas don't matter...your job is simply to labor, not think'...what?
Screw that...
My ideas do matter m/f....
I, we all, have limited time on this earth like you...or 'glass ceiling management'...ideas do matter, expecially if they're more efficient and better than those running the company into the ground.
But you're instead told to finish drilling the hole, and that the 'appropriate people will look into it'...(steal your idea and take credit for it)...
Right now I'm simply speaking for millions...who just can't say it on their own...
People get sick of having their talents and skills marginalized, simply cause they lack certain pedigree on paper, but more than exceed qualifications in real life application of talent, skill and wit.

Online application templates suck...yes they suck.
The default limited responses, or box checks, are never what you need to convey proper information.
They're like 'check box a or b...when you really need to check box z...but there is not box z so you have to check a, or b, in order to go forward.
It forces you to lie, simply to move process alone, cause if you don't check either box that doesn't apply to you, then application won't process, and will keep telling you to fill in box a or b, to go forward.
People who design these templates are 'dense'...sorry but they are, as are people who design traffic lights that aren't in sync.
Applications in no way shape or form can properly determine whether someone is qualified for a job or not.
Nothing beats and old fashion interview.
And even then, people still only hire who the like...regardless of your skill set, people hire who they like, which often times have nothing to do with skill, rather lust.
Anyways...applications suck, I'm use to working for self, but filled one out just for fun of it, and it was very frustrating...
Dates and times I couldn't even remember, that had nothing to do with whether I could perform job or not...

Applications still suck
Haven't been in this section for a while, but to me applications still suck.
And every time I get ready to fill one out I get turned off.
I get turned off by the people who review them, not the forms themselves.
I get turned off by people reviewing them, who are less motivated than you, have less vision, less spunk, yet will sit there and decide your fate based on their own personal bias.
Every time I get ready to fill out application or resume I just get turned off, and just makes me want to create on business for self, rather than beg others to hire me or see qualities in myself.
People in that arena are very Dense when it comes to picking true winners.
Like those who passed over Michael Jordan, and other athletes or Stars, who were rejected time and time again, told they had no potential, or jumped around to much....rejected by system geeks, just to finally be received by place that saw their potential.
I know what I'm capable of, and don't need some geek reviewing application, not willing to see outside the box, and telling me, you 'Ahh, you're not qualified' or 'You've had to many jobs in the last 5 years', or some other BS.
You're 10 times the fighter, person, they are, yet they sit in air conditioned room, office, and decide your fate.
Yet hire dud after dud after dud, who looks good on paper.
I'm just tired of it.
Would rather have own hot dog stand and be the boss, than work for company where you don't have a voice and are just seen as mindless labor.
You don't need formal collegiate labor to be an effective employee, Universities push this crap in order to justify charging people half their life earnings to enroll.
Motivation, passion, and the ability to learn, to want to learn, are more important than college.
Oddly enough most of the richest people in the world dropped out of school and started their own business, cause they had drive and vision that some geeky application reviewer was unable to see.
I'm just not ready to trade all that I am, can be, for some low paying hourly job.
Just not ready for that yet....I still have vision, still have potential.
And I'm worth a hell of a lot more than some $8.00 an hour job, working for, laboring for a company worth 500 million.
I'm just not ready to give up yet on my own passions and visions yet.
I'd rather have own company, and 1-2 employees, and be the boss, than work for company as lowly employee and have no say in how operations are done.
Just tired of being a stooge for others.
Or I should say I can't go back to that, not yet.
And luckily as of now I don't have to.

The older you get (at least for some) the more you begin to realize there really is no ultimate 'job' you want.
Want you begin wanting is to run your own business.
Outside of running your own business, all jobs start seeming the seem, just meaningless mindless labor for poverty pay.

Online applications still suck
In this day and age of identity theft, cyber and real life terrorism, scams and spam, I think it would be wise to go back to old fashion paper applications.
People just want you to send them all your info, history, name ect, and you may never hear from them ever again.
So my question is what do they do with your info once you send it?
If I apply at a place, and they don't hire me, I go down to place, if local, and demand they destroy it, give application back to me, or hire me, one of those 3.
But if they're not going to hire me, as far as I'm concerned, they don't need my info floating around in some data base or file cabinet for others to pry into.
Applications are a bogus process to me, accept for a few highly technical fields, like medical, pilot, ect.
Otherwise they're just a stupid legal way for people to discriminate, and is why so many can't get hired, not cause they can't do the job, but rather cause the person doing the hiring simply may not like them.
May not like their hair, or how they dress or you name it.
If it were first come, first get job type of deal, the unemployment in this nation would drop by about 40% over night.
First apply, first get job, like the olden days.
Today everything takes weeks, months.
In my world boy would things be a lot more simpler for everyone.

Applications still do suck, and totally disqualify many right off the bat who just can't remember times, dates, names, ect.
And if business owner or contractor from in past, never had a 'supervisor'.
I notice the corporate world is really into this 'supervised' BS, as if everyone is assigned a supervisor as if a hobbit or something.
Me personally, when I work, there is no one to 'supervise' me, I just work and do my job.
And this idea that one should go back years and years, digging up names, emails, numbers of people use to work with is absurd and cumbersome and impractical in this day and age where people change jobs multiple times a year.
It's impossible to go back 5 years and remember names and dates, and even if did, the people you put on application themselves are more than likely not even with company anymore, so it's a senseless exercise for common retail jobs to require this BS.
If working in Gov, sure, where one has groomed their whole life to be nice and tidy, or medical field, Law enforcement ect, but for common retail jobs, hell no.
To me, either you have a criminal record or you do not, and if no criminal record, than hire the Moe Foe and give them a job for crying out loud.
It's actually easier to just start own business, now days, than to navigate through stupid applications.
As a former contractor, my past just can neatly be expressed on a application, which are designed more for high school students with no work history or who've only had 1-3 jobs.
I like shoes, easier for me to just buy shoes whole sale, mark up, and sale from flea market, than wasting tons of hours answering stupid questions on Payless application.
I can earn more selling shoes on my own, than working for Payless shoes, and have more fun, set own tone.
I just don't have time for all that application BS.

Tired of proving self
Just at point where tired of proving self to others, just to old for that now I suppose.
Was scouring want adds, and just at point where not motivated to work for others or companies that simply see you as basic mindless labor with no input in company working for.
Would just much rather create own company or business.
For here on out if I bust my butt it's going to be for own self interests, it's the only way I can bring the 'mice' back in as far as work goes.

Yes, applications still do, after all this time, suckApplications really don't get you hired, you're hired based on many other qualities or traits the perspective employer likes about you. In many cases it helps to be cute, young and dumb, for to them that means you're 'trainable' and to ignorant to know if being taken advantage of or to notice any misdeeds within company. If to old, most see you as a has been know it all who is not trainable. If ugly, no one wants you working in office with them. Ugly works though, if applying for blue collar type outside industrial job, where all they care about is your labor, you could look like a warthog and they'd still hire you. Being soxy, articulate and fit is always a plus, whether male or female. Size of employer matters to. 20 or less companies harder to get on with, large mega companies, easier. And many jobs you cannot get by simply filling out application, many jobs you simply must transition out of school or college or University in order to be considered, those are more like careers, Engineer, medical, accounting, Managerial. Same with Government jobs, Law enforcement, ect. You can't just apply to become a pilot for United Airlines.  You need extensive schooling which can cost anywhere from $60-$150,000 dollars, if paying out of pocket. Most pilots get hired out of flight school and rest of training is supplemented by company that hires them, or get hired right out of military. Sadly if filling out basic application than probably not pursuing dream job or career, but rather just need basic income to make ends meet. I'm good at writing, as such may pursue writing job, freelance, where you get paid by assignment. No application really needed, just results. If going to earn low wage on second income, would rather do so at home, than wasting fuel and energy. Basic jobs are exciting when younger, or living at home, cause when working, well, you're not at home, around peers, and when younger always seeking a 'mate', or date. When younger aroused by every and anything that moves, so not even thinking about pay, rather lusting over co-workers, not so when older though. When older most everyone around you becomes a pest. Anyways, I really jumped around in this post.

Applications and even Resume templates pretty much all suck, in my opinion, and here's why.
1. Instead of asking what you're interested in doing 'now', they always focus on your past.
just because you went to school for something 10 years ago, doesn't mean that's your same interest 'today', and not only that, what you're really interested in doing, good at, you may never have been 'hired for'.
So what sucks about dry application and or even Resume templates, is you get catogerized based on what you did years ago, or went to school for years ago, rather than what you've been doing past two years on the side.
2. Also, what you went to school for, the job you're earning a living with, and what you have a true passion for, may all be different!
And it's hard to convey that on stupid, static, dry, applications and or site Resumes.
These templates really fail to tap into what a person is naturally gifted at.
But people of corporate U.S. and other places, so brainwashed to always totally think within the box, as told and taught to do so.
Where as creative types like myself are shoved aside, and left to marvel at how dumb most are 'within the system', how little most really think, but rather just follow corporate path laid down for them like lemmings.

Companies (or whatever it could be online) that want your Resume, yet tell you so little about who they are, make me want to vomit.
Basically a Resume is a naked picture of yourself for 'who knows', to look over and examine.
Like when add says 'Only people who send in resumes will be considered'...what a joke!
People like that do, or could, make countless 1000's simply selling yours and others information to google, FB, Ineed, and all the rest.
Companies now pay for peoples info!!!!
So before blindly sending in a resume, you'd better make darn sure you know the people and company sending it to, and then if they don't hire you, ask for it back...why not?
I mean if they don't hire you, why should they have the right to your personal info that someone could still bits and pieces of, like personal address, age, social and more.
The majority of what I call 'main stream top siders' are so conditioned to be sheep.
The belief that if you're good and upright, than so are others.
Or that only people you see in the 'hood' or deviant..let me tell you, there's plenty of deviant behavior that takes place in corporate or admin world.

Applications that still want 'address' of references are out dated to me, in that now days, can no someone for years, say a co-worker, and never know where they live, why should you?
That's intrusive, unless they invite you over or something.
In this day and age, I'd never call up anyone and ask for there personal address to place on application form....those type of trusting days are long gone, at least in my life they are.
And now days, everything is just intel gathering, 3rd party this and 3rd party that, all information is sold behind the scenes, whether filling out job application or sending email.
That's why people should get VPN and that way stop giving people all your information for free...
Here's just one example, there's other companies as well.
Even Rush Limbaugh and other radio hosts pitch VPN's, cause today every site you visit totally gathers intel on you, that's fine for some, but gets annoying for others, is why forms auto fill online cause your computer tells site everything already...
