I was just scouring the net for some good horror stories to read...ghosts, goblins ect...
But when you live in or around the hood, if you want horror, just go out on the streets at night...
Actually, commercially zoned areas aren't where most of the danger lies...most of the danger lies near apartment complexes...that's where you get the drama.
The 'streets' and 'the hood' are kind of different enviornments...
The 'hood' is more like a state within the streets...the way Alabama is to the U.S.
The streets is kind of an open environment of reckless abandonment.
A bar of sorts, that anyone can experience or fall victim to.
Kind of like the bar in Star Wars...the bar would be the 'streets'...but the induvisual aliens that were in the bar each have slightly or radically different traits about them.
For instance...'Bikers' are street...but Bikers are not 'hood'.
The hood, or hoods, are like provinces within the streets.
Hoods are more like non commercial residential areas, where folks reside and sleep.
Different folks can interact in the 'streets' but then at end of night, go back to prospective territories.
The 'streets' are just kind of that area where everyone converges.
The 'streets' are kind of like the Walmart or market place of the underworld class.
One can be 'street savvy' and not be hood.
And one can be hood, and not really be street savvy...it just all depends.
But all that aside...most of the violence and crime occurs in and around apartment complexes at night and on the weekends.
Expecially complexes that cator to section 8 housing.
These single women often attract trouble to their places of residence...males who otherwise would have no place to live do to records.
These males in turn, attract other males, friends, homies, groups.
And with groups comes a sense of 'turf' and 'territory'...and in these territories, these groups form identities, and if you come around and don't have that same identity, trouble can break out.
Particularly in the more gang ridden SW or MW like in Chicago, Detroit ect, and NE.
Apartment complexes are also where a lot of domestic issues are created...it's where people drink, get drunk, get high ect, and other things that occur I'd rather not get into.
Apartment complexes are also where folks stash their weapons, after all it's home.
The commercial streets, or commercial districts, themselves are relatively safe, believe it or not, cause it's where the police tend to patrol often, and where the city has commercial interests to protect..even if ran down.
You have tenants, shop owners, who pay taxes, therefore more patrols..and you have more random people, witnesses if something were to go down...so ye the 'streets' can be sleezy, things that occur can be sleezy...but more like market sleezy...corn shops, exibits, bars, where people pay for sleeze.
But back further up in the hood, or certain neighborhoods, all that changes...cops don't patrol those areas regularly, and only respond when a 911 call is made.
The hood, or certain neighborhoods, is also where a lot of transactions take place that feed the 'black market'...
Again, use your imagination as I don't want to get into details.
It's where robberies take place...wherever you have _______ sales, you have robberies also.
Addicts that come around causing trouble.
And it's where you have more young youth orientated types, who like to fight and all.
Usually the closer you get to downtown, the safer it becomes, even late at night.
All you really have downtown is homeless types, older males way beyond their prime...all they do is stumble around in the shadows..
And you have the mentally ill scattered amongst them...but for the most part they all leave you alone, and in turn want to be left alone.
Downtown is kind of the safe zone, expecially if you're homeless...as I was once.
And it varies a bit from city to city.
Southern cities are one way, where as South Western cities are another, and NE cities another.
But usually youth from the ages of 14-25 are the most dangerous, and cause the most trouble.
percentage wise.
They still have to prove how tough they are, and are constantly seeking folks to make examples out of.
Particularly in cities plagued with gangs.
Gangs are more dangerous in the 'hood' areas, than they are on the 'streets'.
Again, the streets are more like an area where people converge to be festive in a underworld type of way.
Where voluntary deals are made, where people are entertained, bars, clubs, corn shops, shows ect.
Commercially zoned areas.
Hoods, or neighborhoods, are where people actually sleep and reside.
You have Italian hoods, Armanian hoods, Hispanic hoods, Asian hoods...regardless of the ethnic make up of hoods, hoods are the most dangerous places to be or dwell once the sun goes down, expecially if you're a noticeable outsider...
Even run down, countrified trailer park hoods, can get rough and nasty at night, particularly if you're an outsider.
Heck...who needs a text book, just come here and read and learn instead...later.
