Before Elvis, there was 'Big Mamma Thornton'...
She's the originator of 'You ain't nothing but a hound dog'.
And I like this version better.
I first saw, heard it, on one of those Time/Life Werner music info-mercials, where they were pitching old classics...
They do put together some good collection of songs with their long 30 minute info mercials..but they do dig up some good classics...and this song by 'Big Mamma Thornton' was one I remembered from one of their presentations, and it just stood out to me.
The original 'hound dog' song, sung by a woman...wow...and I like this version better than Elvis's.
Elvis's version is a bit to 'rockish' and loud for me, his version sounds a bit to 'wet'...
Elvis's version is like soup, where as this version is like thick stew.
Live on Big Mamma...live on in the Twylight Zone...
