Explosions...who doesn't love explosions!!
Hello there!!
Let's Rock-N-Roll...
So, wanna know what keeps a book or article in my hand?
So, wanna know what keeps me reading a online blog, or article, verses skipping to next thing of interest?
You, and your writing style, that's what.
Your writing should be the thing of 'interest' that others leave other places, to find.
I for one love explosions....no, not literal ones...(although they're fun to watch also), but rather literary ones...
Your words, the picture you're trying to paint in my mind, the imagery, should be explosive right from the start, not the end, but from the start.
You should 'grrraaaab' me, the reader, and pull me in instantly...right away...waste no time, just do it...
Pull me in...with big wonderful ideas, with action...make me care about the other 99 pages of your book or other 2500 words of your blog.
Go ahead...grab me...pull me into your mind, the depth of your mind, your thoughts...do it now!
Ouch!...ok ok, you got my attention...you have managed to pull me into, draaaag me down into the depths of your mind through powerful graphic wording.
Do you see the point I'm trying to make?
Of course I'm using 'gifs' to highlight a point...but you don't need gifs, to pull people into your mind, your thoughts...
All you need is 'action'...
Get me interested in what you have to say immediately, then I'm more likely to stick around for the rest, cause now I want to know how it ends.
Show me the monster from page 1, then let me finish reading, to find out more about this 'monster'...use my own naturally curiosity to get me to read more...to search the basement (other pages) of your book or blog.
I don't so much care that 'Sally was wearing a red dress' as I do 'Sally was kicked off the cheerleading squad for skipping class'...
Get me interested in Sally, then after I'm interested in Sally, and can relate, then maybe I'll care what type of dress she's wearing...
I don't so much care that 'Bob sat inside his Mercedes' as I do 'Bob stole, and then sat inside his Mercedes, on the way to work'....
Action words, action characters...characters that have traits we publicly condemn, but quietly admire.
(just making illustrative points here, don't panic)...
The End....
(Short sweet and simple)....
No actually there may be a few more posts on this subject of how to effectively write in a way that keeps your readers interested.
Now go away...thanks...
