If you want to get caught up on the Sopranos, how it ended, why it ended the way it did, this video gives a good summary. These clips all focus on the 'Kerosene' character 'Phil Leotardo'...it's like the meat, without the potatoes.
All the scenes are with Phil in it, no romance, no Tony going to therapy, or other side issues, just straight up to the point gangsta scenes.
The Sopranos got criticized for getting to 'soap operaish' during the middle seasons, and die hard 'gangster' viewers began loosing interest, so I notice towards maybe last 3 seasons, show really started getting 'dark' again, darker than it was even in the beginning.
Sure the Sopranos was 'dark' during the beginning episodes, but it also always had a tone of humor to accompany those dark scenes. But in the latter episodes that accompanying humor was greatly diminished, and the writers seemed to focus more on the darker realities of being in the mob.
Phil's character is like the villain within a movie of villains.
Tony was a villain, yes, but he was a lovable villain with a family, and hobbits, that the viewing public had gotten to know over several seasons.
And Phil Leotardo's character kind of represents the villain who's not as 'lovable' as Tony was. This video pretty much sums up the beginning of the end for Tony's crew.
Phil's character was kind of introduced to give the show a way to 'exit'.
More to follow.

I just saw the last episode of the Sopranos...and that bizarre ending, with no screen conclusion. Here's my take on it. I think the writer or directors ect, allowed each viewer to finish the movie how ever they wanted to. Kind of like those old 'Choose your own adventure books'. I think the writer of the series gave it to the viewers to write their own ending or beginning to that series. If some want Tony and his family to have a happy ending, than in their minds they do, if some want a tragic ending for Tony and his family, then again they do. I think I'll go ahead and write my ending to the Sopranos right now, and what I think, or would have wanted to occur. Begin.. 'After Tony Soprano looked up, his daughter walked over to where family was seated and joined them for dinner. The man who entered the bathroom then came out, and was confronted by the two AA males who entered restaurant, they obviously had some kind of business together and the two AA males escorted the Russian man outside onto the streets where they were never seen again. Tony's son ended up joining Army, applied for Officer candidate school and was accepted, where he went on to learn how to fly helicopters. His daughter got married, became a Defense Attorney and led a successful career helping those in her community. Tony went to Prison, and by the time he got out he was 'out of the game' and all his adversaries had pretty much died out or were no longer relevant. And Tony's wife grew to a ripe old age always being there for her family. The End' That's my ending.
