Yes, the King of Rock vs the King of Funk. I think a side by side comparison is long over do. As I go forward, do remember this though, neither of them are better than the other. And it's easy to be culturally bias when examining the musical content of both (the readers that is). Each had a certain appeal to certain demographics, but at same time each had a large cross over appeal. James Brown though, is probably more of a staple in 'white' homes, than Elvis is in 'black homes' ect. For whatever reasons, black artist have easier time crossing over into the 'white main stream' than white artist are able to do in the black community. And there's reasons for this that we'll explore later. This will be a fun thread as I can appreciate both Elvis and James Brown for what each brought to the scene. And I don't have to rip one, in order to elevate the other. With that being said, I'll try to be as objective as possible. Future posts coming soon.

I also want to look at social impact each had on populace.
Inspirational effect and so on.
James Brown of course, coming from social underclass, probably scores higher in this section.

But when Elvis was hot, he was hot, and I think sometimes today we forget just how hot and energetic he was back in his hey day.

In reality, both of these men were special souls, gifted with melody, timing and the need to entertain, I just wish in their latter years they had mellowed a bit, but the kind of fame they both had can kind of burn you out quick...may they both rest in peace.
