Sorry, but Popeye's chicken isn't the same now, as it was years ago.
I ate at one last weekend, and the flavor, and unique Cajun style cooking that once made that place a stand out, a must go to, years ago, is now all but gone.
Sadly, like most fast food chain resturants, the food at Popeye's has morphed into a generic, tasteless product.
The chicken is about as bland and generic tasting as they come now.
If you wore a blind fold while eating the chicken there, you would think it was generic, no season chicken right out of a TV dinner at the grocery store.
After eating at Popeye's this weekend, you might actually enjoy the TV dinner better. Even TV dinner chicken has more taste, style and flare than does Popeye's Chicken now days.
Not sure what happened with that chain, new owners? new share holders?
One can only guess, as companies seek to expand, everything becomes bigger and cheaper all in the name of fast generic production, eaten by a fast food generic consumer base.
They even stopped serving the fried okra, at least at this location.
Hospital cafeteria food tastes better, is more seasoned, than Popeye's chicken.
If you like generic, bland, no taste, chicken, than Popeye's is your place.
It's what happens when owners are more interested in expansion, than quality.
If Popeye's chicken had started off like it is today, they would have never made a name for themselves.
Later I will do research into the history and founder of the franchise, and try to figure out where they went wrong, how they could go from being a Southern legend, must visit and eat at place, to the generic, no flavor fast food place it is today...
Maybe they should hire Paula Dean to mice the place up a bit...
