All this hoopla over gay scouts...
To me it's about conduct, not orientation....
As a former youth scout member myself, it was all about conduct...how you conducted yourself around others and while in the public...
It's not as if scouts who are gay or think they are, are going to be given a different set of principles to conduct themselves by....
Scout conduct, behavior, principles, is universaly applied to all members...and does not alter or change depending on ones orientation....
As with the military...when they allowed gays to openly serve, all the ignorant people thought they'd be haveing gay orgies in the platoon....
Yet, as smart people knew, like myself, nothing could be further from the truth....
Gay or gayish soldiers are serving right next to 'straight' soldiers, and there's been no reported disruptions in moral or performance....
Immoral conduct or behavior, is immoral, whether exhibeted by a gay person or a hetrosoxual person...
That's why the emphasize is or should always be placed on conduct, not ones orientation....
Either you can allow gay or gayish youth to join the scouts openly...or they will simply learn to lie, and join anyways...
And besides, when I was in the scouts at that young age...orientation wasn't even an issue anyways...I was to young to even know what that was...
So this is all kind of laughable to me...cause hobbits that young aren't even thinking about orientations...the adults maybe are...but the youthful members are not...
Which is why my opinion kind of changes when it comes to adult scoutmasters being gay...
That's a whole different cup of tea...as we learned with the Catholic church...
Not sure if having adult, openly gay, scoutmasters would be a good idea...
Although again, I'm sure many adult gay scoutmasters already serve...but simply don't advertise their orientation...
And again is why instead of worrying about things you can't control inside of others...Conduct, should be what everyone is measured by...
Regardless of ones inner confusion or thoughts, when you join the scouts, you should still be required to live up to their principles...
And that alone will weed out any bad behavior or misconduct by gay members or hetro members...
Just like the regular laws of the land do...
There's not seperate laws for gay folks, gay folks obey the exact same laws that hetro folks do...
