Ok, in this video...the host explains the differences between different types of nests of bees, hornets and wasps...
Watching this video has helped me identify the nest outside my place as being created by wasps...
I'm pretty sure that's what they are from watching this video and other charts and images... They don't seem over aggressive...cause they tolerate me...I walk underneath them all the time...and they seem to ignore me...for whatever reason they just don't see me as a threat...
I find that behavior in them odd...very odd...why don't they see me as a threat? They should, but they don't.
I believe 'hornets', on the other hand, are a bit or a lot more aggressive, and easily agitated.
I have other wasps species that hang out where I live also...but these are solitary spider killing type wasps...or mud dabbers. (Is how I hear others describe them)
The first time one stings me, they're all gone...but as long as they leave me alone, I'll leave them alone.

I created this a few months ago, from varying images... Just be glad Humans aren't the size of insects...or Wasps, bees, Hornets, would be feeding on us, carrying us off to their nests to feed their young...

It's that time of the year again (at least in warmer places), where Wasps, Hornets and Bees are on the go again... These things are just to aggressive for me to feel comfortable allowing to build colonies close to me, like on balcony, or porch or stair well. I tried that last year, and one renegade wasp attacked, and that experiment was over. They are smart though, in that I observed they won't attack when their numbers are low. Like when first building nest, you have like 1-4 or 5....they won't attack, they'll tolerate movement around nest. But as soon as they get to 10-40...watch out! They're smart, and realize if they attack with just 1-5, they risk inialation. So like a human military, they wait until their numbers are enough where they can launch effective attack. I learned that that hard way. Here's the thing...I respect all life, even wasps and bees and hornets, and I hate having to destroy any colony..I really do..and it saddens me that they like to build their nests so close to humans, like on patios and porches and attics and under roof over hangs. And it's not like they can reason...and realize you mean them no harm...unless...unless... Unless scientist could capture unique chemical identifier that each hive has...or scent, and replicate it in lab... And then make enough of it where you could spray yourself with it...as such wasps, since they go by scent, would simply think you were one of them. It seems insects go by scent, not site, as long as you smell like them, it's like they'll accept you as their own. This is worth further study...and those with labs should see if this indeed is true, that if you spray unique chemical identifier of hive on you, would the bees, wasps, hornets, ants, accept you as one of their own? To be continued...

Here's the thing...I respect all life...(accept spiders)...(and Roaches), (and fleas, tics, mites, misquitoes)... But other than that I respect most life. Before I kill these hornets or wasps on balcony, I'll maybe try to put them in jar. Their colonies are still small enough were I can do that...and it's still cold enough where they're almost in a state of hibernation. One colony just has 3 alien looking wasps, the other is just one, probably a female just starting process of building nest. But do to on and off cold weather, at night and in morning, their in near state of hibernation, as if dead. So maybe I'll put jar over them, slide jar down, they'll fall into jar, put lid on, and then transplant them very far away, and open lid. These things do freak me out, but at the same time I'm humane, and only like to turn to violence as last resort. So I may try to transplant them, before I blast them with Raid. But I'll have raid can right there and at the ready, incase it doesn't go right...

Wasps, Bees and Hornets, I just don't like them, cause they don't like me Seems as soon as winter over, temperature averages above 60 for a few days, here come the Hornets building their nests all up on your balcony, under stairs, ect. I don't like these creatures, cause they're to aggressive and will attack you, even if don't bother them. In the past, when dumb, would allow them to build nest, thinking we could live 'side by side' in peace. I was dead wrong. (Kind of how hippies think just by being 'nice' can change the nature of evil people, wrong!) Wasps, Bees and Hornets are what they are, regardless of you or I, or our kind behavior. No matter how nice, they'll still view you, us, as a threat and attack....like ISIS. As such, now I destroy, kill them, at first signs of nest building.

I see how Wasps, or hornets do it
I now see how Wasps or Hornets 'do it', how they make it through colder seasons, in that have one such potentially large nest on my patio...but cause it's still cold, nest building, egg laying, still very slow.
When just now, observed this future nest, I see that 'Queen' basically hybernates until conditions, weather, is proper, before really springing into action, where you get rapid nest growth in warm season.
This 'nest' which is no more the size of a large shriveled grape, hasn't grown in weeks, maybe will take photo and upload.
I realize now, the Queens, simply, like Bears, hybernate during the winter, or colder months, and then when weather is right, that's when they get busy, that's when leg laying begins and that's when small grape sized nest suddenly swells.
Was about to 'destroy' this small grape sized nest, with single queen in it, but stupid me had 'pity'...but sooner or later will have to...why?
Cause Wasps, hornets, aren't nice, and will attack you even if you mean them no harm.
So can't allow nest to grow...after all it's me paying rent for this patio, the Wasp or hornet is living rent free on my paid space.

Spiders have zero mercy on their prey, so why should I show mercy to spiders?

A Wasp kicks the crap out of a spider, from Astralia, I think...
Unlike me, Wasps aren't afraid of spiders, unlike me, certain Wasps see spiders as food, the way humans see beef.

The worse thing about living in the South Eastern States are the large bees, and Hornets and Wasps that freagin come alive when the weather gets warm and freagin love to built nests everywhere, it sucks actually, cause can't leave anything outside or on the deck or soon will have wasps and all building nests on it, they got trees and other natural places, so why the F must they bother man made homes and structures.
But like I said, the only good thing about having all these hornets and wasps is they kill spiders, cause that's all they mainly feed on, so no spiders here, but plenty of gosh dern Wasps, many different types.
It's really annoying.
The south is full of all kinds of creepy looking insects.

If you leave real honey out on your porch or patio, this is what happens or could
If you leave honey out, there's a good chance honeybees will show up to feast...hmm

Where I live, Wasps, and Hornets really come out during summer months, and I like what they do, as far as killing other insects, and spiders, but hate, repeat, absolutely hate how solitary wasps have to invade every nook and cranny of your exterior dwellings...I hate it.
As in chairs, patio crawlways, anything they can crawl inside they will and do whatever.
Yes, they're solitary and for the most part will not attack humans, but there's just something instinctively unsightly about seeing these wasps fly past you, while you're on your patio or porch, as they land in door screen slide space to pack in yet another captured insect.
At times I just want to destroy them all, as in just 'Raid' them all to death, declare straight up chemical warfare on them.
But then they'll just come back.
Poch screen is a good idea if where you live allows them, but even then they'll get in, and are to dumb to get out, so now you'll have multiple wasps stuck inside the screen area.
If I were in a bad mood, and drunk, I could just see myself declaring war on these wasps and just going nuts on them with chemical bug spray.
Lucky for these wasps I'm neither drunk right now or upset, agitated, but not upset, lucky them.
