Publishing book is only the first step or stage If a small time upstart indie Author, just getting your book published is just the first phase or stage. The rest is pretty much promo, promo, promo and then more promo. And that can come in many different forms from stickers, to business cards with book on the cover to gifs, to Youtube videos to postcards with book cover on front side, to you name it. To paying for short radio promos, print add promos and more. To buying Author copies of book and mailing them out to radio stations and or prominent Podcasters, the media and more, and more can be physically walking book into local TV and radio stations and giving copies to local radio hosts ect. The point is you have to get your book out there or no one will hear about it other than close friends and family. Sadly, small unknown Authors don't have friends in media, and so can't get book announced in front of millions, the way talk radio hosts do with their pals all the time. There's a lot of crummy Authors and books that get big sales, simply cause say they're on the Mark Levin show or Hannities show, or the Howard Stern show ect, and get a big mention. But if not that lucky than it's up to you, the Author, to get your book out there anyway you can like this person here..

Book writing tips
1. Don't just write one book at a time, have about 2 or 3 you're working on all at once, why?
Because you'll avoid burnout that way, and or if do get burned out on one book, just start working on the other or others, rather than not writing at all, or writing elsewhere that's not in the book
2. Don't write if don't feel like it otherwise your writings will be dull. If you're in a dull mood, what you write will be dull, so goes your mind, so goes your writing or what you write.

When writing a book, don't be afraid to start over or divert from original template
You'll know if a book is a good read or not, cause good heavens you'll have to read it over many times while writing it, and if get to a point where books just doesn't flow right, or you notice your thrust and steam is elsewhere, then follow your gut.
Kind of like spin off TV shows, well sometimes while writing one book, an idea may spin off from your main book that may be better and more focused.
For remember, when you write to sell, you're trying to write in a style that compells people to want to read it, if you're not doing that than you may as well be writing in your own private journal.
You have to write to compel people to read on and on and on.
Better to start over while a few pages or chapters in, than to write a whole book that not even you yourself would read.

If a new Author, don't pick a subject that will require to much research or you'll get distracted and the book writing process will start feeling more like homework rather than a fun endeavor
Me, I've having to go back to the drawing board, again, for the second time, for a book that sounded fun to write in my head, once started writing it, I quickly became bogged down with 'proof', and side references type of stuff, which keeps branching out, and soon your mind gets tired just thinking of all the references you'll have to make to legitamize your point of view.
So the best thing for me is simply write about something where my own experience makes me the expert so not always having to cite what others said or spoke or wrote.
In my opinion, deeper more researched books can come after your first few books have made some sales...Otherwise you're just going to spend hours, months, even a year or more, doing all this research and footnotes and this and that, just to see book flop once published. I mean why waste all that time and energy?
Write about what comes easy to you first, then get into the deeper stuff later once established.

Sometimes I think I write better when drunk, why?
Because when drinking or drunk, as in real life, words and thoughts just tend to flow out better do to not over thinking how they'll be taken.
That being said, I think obviously it's better to write while sober, and the above comment or statement really can only be related to someone who use to drink a lot, and now doesn't, and so is able to compare drunk writer self to sober writer self.
It's just when sober, one can tend to over think things to much, which can lead to frustration and eventually not writing book at all.
But all that can be over come with structure.

This is very true, just like if started constructing a house, and it started leaning, you wouldn't continue, rather you'd start over or back track to get it right....same with a book, even if 10 pages in, if it doesn't feel right than it's probably not, start over or fix what needs to be fixed.

My own strategy is working when it comes to writing a book or books, and that is work on more than just one at a time, why?
Because it's hard to maintain focus on one subject matter or theme for long periods of time, as in weeks, or months even, most of us rotate in and out of moods constantly throughout the day, let alone months.
And if have a book that reflects a variety of moods or interests (storylines ect) you may fall in and out of, that means you're more likely to have the drive to work on one book, even though lose interest in the other for a while, and the more books you have going on at the same time, the better chance one of your books will always fit whatever mood you're in thus you'll always be writing something, rather than avoiding just that one book you have for weeks, if your mood of that topic wanes.
It's all about keeping your energy focused where it can do the most good.
Ideally for me, I need to be writing about 4 books all at the same time to always keep my enthusiasm towards at least one of them at the forefront.
I've tried that one book thing, and unless a truly established large income generating Author already, and just have months or years to write a book do to previous book sales, the one book thing just doesn't work for me.
Cause I'll get burned out, and just avoid writing on that subject all together, but will instead dump thoughts online on social sites ect, when that writing energy could of been directed towards another book.
Momentum is momentum, regardless of which book your momentum is benefiting at the time.

Promoting your new book won't be easy in that most people you're around on a daily basis don't read books.
Seems the millions who do, just won't be the ones in your circle of social life or work life.
Sad how that works.
It seems it's always strangers who don't know you who end up being the ones who fiscally support you by buying your book, but those closet to you just roll their eyes as if to say 'Hey, I don't have time to support your silly endevour', yet that day or night they'll go out and spend 4 times the amount supporting another persons endevour by buying their products instead.

There's a whole new game changer for eBook Authors, and that is one can publish book directly to Amazon, for free, other than the royalty they get for sales, but like Author keeps 70% or so.
In other words, most new Authors aren't going to sell a ton of books anyways, so if not going to sell a ton of books anyways, but still want book published, it does kind of make sense to use Amazon KDP, instead of going through a publisher who'll charge you all sorts of fees, and will get a cut of your profit, and then have to trust them that when do sell book, they give you your share.
Where as on Amazon, there is no middle man, so to speak.
And they format it for you, ect and ect.
Hmm, I mean why not right?
Cause I'm dealing with a publisher right now, and all they do is want to charge you to promote your book after you've already paid then to publish it, and if not careful you'll just be dumping your money in a hole and not have sold one copy!
I think I may look into this Amazon KDP thing more, cause if went that route could pump out more eBooks, and not have to worry about some 3rd party publisher deciding if book good enough or not, hmm, this just might work out better for me.
And can even do hard cover books this way also, I mean why not?
More info on this as I learn more.
But all that aside, you still need content, you still need a book that others will want to read, never forget that.

Book writing can be exhaustive Book writing can be an exhaustive process, and there's no garuntee that when done with your book it'll sell. But for me, I'd rather have published materials out there, sales or no sales, than none at all. Cause usually all it takes for sales to jump is that one 5 minutes in the spotlight, that one event where the public wants to know more about you, and if already have a book or books out there, walla, now they can buy your book or books, and will, cause now they saw you on TV or heard you on the radio. Not only that, when long gone and dead, if have actual physical books out there it's as if you're still around. Not sure why so many only seem to value others thoughts after they're dead and gone. But ye, book writing, even if you love to write, can be exhausting. It's spent energy, spent mental energy, and anytime you spend energy, it can be exhausting to some extent or another.

When writing a book, it can feel like life is passing you by
Book writing is nothing like posting on social media, where you get instant gratification.
Book writing takes time, lots and lots of time, where another may not know your thoughts until years later.
And that mindset requires a lot of patience.
We all have been conditioned to want instant gratification, I know I have, but at what cost?
Social media will be gone in a flash, books however, will last for the ages.

To me, if a new self publishing Author, don't waste your time or money with all those side gig publishing companies, all they'll do is take your money, and even if your book does sell, you'll have no way of knowing.
Your book could sell 1000 copies, and you'd never know.
It's all based on some honor system the publisher promises to tell you when book sold...BS!
To me, I've learned, unless you yourself own your own ISBN number, you have no idea who's buying your book, where it's being sold or anything.
Some of the biggest crooks in this world aren't thugs on the streets, rather they're dishonest types who work in offices taking your money through fraud and dishonest practices.
