This song is probably more Classic R&B than hip-hop...but non the less Toni, Tony, Tone was one of the last group, instrument playing black bands to make the top 20 billboards...before rap just totally took over.
I was living in the Seattle area when this song came out...
I miss good, wholesome loving music like this...I miss that whole area...

(1997) wow...
Tempted to give 'Lil Kim' her own thread...cause she went through so much pain, and rose up during the time of bigge and pac...special lady she is...I'm just now learning to appreciate her passion...
(added note)
This is not the original song I had chosen for this spot, but this section has been up since like 2013, that's over 8 years, so some of the original videos gone, so now and then have to go back and do maintanance and update, but sometimes I forget which song was in which spot, so in the future will title each song in post, that way if video gone I can at least remember which song was there)

'Just another day in the neighborhood'...this song right here, is why I'll always be a fan of Queen Latifah.
Rest in peace, to all the souls who past away doing the violent 90's era this song was released in, young souls, confused, no guidance, no parents...so many perished fighting, dying, for the only cause they thought life had for them...
Props to all the old school warriors...those still here...older, stronger, and hopefully wiser...

I only post true times changing, people changing, industry changing, classics on here.
And this song by EPMD is definitely one of them, back when rap was way more 'exotic'.
A true hip-hop classic.

Cypress Hill 'Latin Lingo'.
This is an old forgotten about classic, one I just kind of discovered today.
You can just watch the video and tell what it's about, you get the feeling it's about one of Cypress Hills members trying to prove he's down with 'Latinos' or the 'Mexicans' in LA.
Although all their memebers look kind of 'mixed'...the other two members look like they're mixed with Islander or something.
I kind of like the old school drum rhythm of this song...I miss that clean flow that rap songs had back in the 90's.
Songs back then had that clean flow and melody, something you could grove to.
Back in the day Cypress Hill really were industry game changers.

(this classic song will work as fill in...LOL...what a great great older rap song with soul!)
Added note: I wish like heck this song was titled so could remember which song was here...darn.
Back when hip hop actually meant something.
Back when hip hop had soul, meaning, passion, rhythm and melody.
And back when hip hop was a bit 'cute'.
Not sure what has happened since.
All I know is I love old styled hip hop..not sure about todays SE urban style.
But love the old.

(can't remember if this was original song I had here) Mic Geronimo...wow. Love this style of rap...it just flowed so smoothly...like jazz. Can just imagine cruising down interstate in newer vehicle with this song playing in speakers. Feeling cool and relaxed. I so wish cool layed back rap like this would make a come back...

Wrong side of the tracks...I've never heard of this song until tonight...but I love the flow, that smooth 90's flow that 90's rap had...specifically that North East flavor.
I often wonder where these artist are today?
Unlike todays rappers, they turned ugly life experiences into beautiful melodays that just flowed.

(Keep rising to the top)
For some reason this is the only song of Doug E Fresh that I like, the only song of his that I can relate to, that seems authentic street to me.
It's the only song of his I like, and the only song that I can barely relate to.
As such it deserves a spot in the Hip Hop classics thread...

'It's my thing'...a classic.
Back when hip-hop was 'new' and still had soul to it.
Lot's of people rose up, and lots of people got taken out, during this juvenile time in hip-hops development.
But back in the day this song was considered 'real G' type stuff.
Back when new artist sampled, rapped over old soul groves from the 70's, 60's.
Todays rap has kind of broken away from that past connection, as such todays rap totally lacks 'soul'.

Buffalo Gals go round and round Oh what a classic from way back in the day, when break dancing and pop locking ect were brand new...when hip-hop was young, card board and boom boxes were the thing of the day. This song is dedicated to all the older hip-hop warriors out there when things were a bit more innocent.

Red Man 'Pick it up'...
He's kind of an lost forgotten underrated MC from back in the day, and often collaborated with 'Method Man' from Wu-Tang Klan.
This song was made after a money truck flipped over on New York interstate and people in community were criticized for picking up the vault money.
This was his response to the criticism.
At least he was true to the 'hood' and why he was so popular back in the day.

'Hey DJ Lets play that song keep me dancing all night long' Wow...what a jingle. Back when hip-hop was in it's infancy and still tied into break dancing. A well produced song just has a jingle that lasts and resignates for decades...
